We have had to redesign this, having lost a speaker (!) but now it’s even better than before. The theme for the day is the ever-changing landscape, reflected in images, past and present. We’ve taken three aspects to highlight this aspect of our work, since we can learn so much from pictures that hasn’t been written down.
Time is running out so we do need you to decide promptly and to book straight away if you’d like to come.
Edward Milner, by popular request, has been invited back. He has agreed to offer us further insights into the images of trees in the landscape. You may remember his Channel 4 series and now he is working on a new book due later in the year.
Cherrill Sands has researched the history of menageries in the English landscape. This unusual subject caught our attention and her illustrated talk on this singular use of our landscape has been praised highly.
Chris Howkins on farming changes. It is now 18 years since we took dozens of photos for the Dairymaids Flora publication but very few were used in the book. Even then, there were only two farms like it in the whole of south east England – now of course they have gone.
Exhibition: Chris Howkins will put on display some of his tree portraits from the Gatton Exhibition last year, plus some new material. The majority will be for sale.
Doors open 10.30am (no admittance before that) for signing in. As usual, bring your packed lunch and bring your mug in with you to start with to get your welcoming coffee. Please park closely in the car park, and definitely not out on the road. Tickets are £10 each and location map will be sent with the tickets.
For more information, or to check availability and book, please contact Chris Howkins.
