The Story of Holly

This replaces the talk given formerly as "Plants to Celebrate Midwinter". It is ideal for pre-Christmas bookings, through November and December. It traces the history of the great Midwinter Festival before St. Augustine came to Canterbury, and then traces the story of the plants we use at Christmas, particularly holly. You will be amazed just how pagan your Christmases can be !! Prince Albert did not invent the Christmas tree either!

The Holly is a tree for all seasons and outside the Christmas period the talk highlights the other uses of the holly, from birdlime to furniture, wood block printing to farming and gardening. This is one of the talks suited to horticultural societies.
