Published in association with the British Trust for Conservation
Volunteers to help promote a revival of the British Charcoal industry.
After a brief introduction to traditional charcoal burning and to
the new technology being given field trials, the book then lists
the trees that were used in the past for specific types of charcoal
- for medicine, gunpowder, furnace fuels, blacksmiths, etc.
In
this respect the book is believed to be the first of its kind. Additional
sections highlight woodland herbs for burns and cuts. Attention
is drawn to the value of the wildlife of this type of woodland management.
Written
for the general reader and proving very popular, with the illustrations
attracting much favourable comment.
